These images are from a riveting exhibition by South African photographer Pieter Hugo.
His Hyena Men series, with generous accompanying notes, is about a group of men who parade around the streets of Lagos with muzzled hyenas on chains. They are described by Nigerian newspapers as bank robbers, bodyguards, drug dealers and debt collectors but Hugo spent time with them and came away with some sympathy.~
More exhibitions by Pieter Hugo here. His Nollywood series features actors working in the Nigerian film industry, which churns out 500 to 1000 movies a year.
