Drink was his muse, and he surrendered totally!
I was drawn to all the wrong things: I liked to drink, I was lazy, I didn’t have a god, politics, ideas, ideals. I was settled into nothingness; a kind of non-being, and I accepted it. I didn’t make for an interesting person. I didn’t want to be interesting, it was too hard. What I really wanted was only a soft, hazy space to live in, and to be left alone.
A writer has no responsibility, except to jack off in bed alone and type a good page.

One of several recent works by the chameleon Tindink, who is not only both a Tumblr and a lady mayoress but also, it turns out, a multi-media artist with impeccable taste and many skills. Go here to see more of her work.

Just in case someone, anyone, was wondering: a self-portrait in the form of a list
My home
messy, small, in the middle of a big city Sections I would head for in a large general bookstore
Art, Anthologies, History Favourite modes of transport
Walking if it’s not too hot, train, pedal car Favourite foods
Cheese, ice-cream, Thai curries Marital status
Unmarriable Masculinity/femininity if 1 is say Marilyn Monroe and 10 Camille Paglia
Eight As a child I was …
Serious, frustrated, plain Favourite writers
I need a year off to catch up with writers, books and stories; and in fact anything longer than an essay or newspaper article Three countries I would like to spend more time in
Greece, Britain, the medieval world My parents …
Didn’t take any nonsense, loved to laugh, improved with age Things I couldn’t live without
Music, the internet, colour Desert island discs
Wagner (The Ring Cycle), Handel’s Messiah, complete works of Pentangle Ideal holiday
~ Exploring Britain — with a laptop for access to history and literary guides and transport info;
~ People-watching in the old city of Jerusalem;
~ Travelling all over Greece with a musicologist Causes I support
~ Palestinian right of return;
~ Outlawing Scientology and other cults,
~ Redressing wrongs against Australian Aborigines and making teaching of their myths and traditions compulsory in schools
