If God was a woman, sperm would have tasted of chocolate” .. Stephen Fry

(via elledark)

~

No, he’s got it wrong and anyway he’s gay, so how would he know?

If sperm were to taste like chocolate, which I’m told it doesn’t, it would be proof that (a) there IS a God and (b) God is male and always has an eye to the main chance where pleasure is concerned.
God is, in every way I can think of, a projection of MALE fantasies and projections, Mr Fry.
The female “God” is Gaia, upon whom Onan spilled his seed, or sauce.
And did she admonish anyone about it? No, she lapped it up. No bullshit guilt involved.

If more children had taken a leaf out of Mr Leaf’s book the world would be in a far better state today, now wouldn’t it.

Also, speaking from personal experience, Don’t say yea, say yes.

And don’t be like Judy Brown down the road (the naughty Judy my nana invented).

“Inappopriate books for kids” is the appropriate tag line for Curious Pages, a wonderful blog about all the best children’s books.

Judy Brown down the road loves it!

Hope Kroll, Hidden Persuaders, 2006.

I’m getting a little over-excited poring through Kroll’s rather Max Ernst-inspired collages, cobbled together like eerie anatomical palimpsests from a frequently whimsical, sometimes fragile-looking range of antique ephemera. From the artist’s statement:

I use antique books as my main source material and for the past seven years, I have devoted myself to the technique of cut-paper collage.

In these works, either the book covers themselves, or the antique blank paper found in old books serve as the ‘canvas’ upon which I assemble the intricately cut-out images.

Culled from a wide range of sources, my visual lexicon is composed of diverse images gleaned from old encyclopedias, medical texts, children’s books, popular science, technical manuals, paper dolls and antique photographs to name a few. Because of the high quality of the color plates and lithography found in the actual printings, I prefer to use original found materials. Copied or scanned images cannot come close to the originals in terms of overall visual impact. The aged paper offers a beautiful natural patina and a muted palette I find particularly attractive. I feel that these older books and photographs are especially compelling as they each possess their own unique history, having passed through many hands before coming into my possession.

Some people start the year with a party . . .

… others start with earnest resolutions.

Me, I started mine in a characteristically studious manner, by becoming better acquainted with CSS and HTML.

So, as a compulsive tinkerer and real fun party type, I am sitting here considering several options regarding the look of the page you’re reading.

What do you think about bright yellow?

OK, OK, not all my ideas are that shocking; some are quite subtle, in fact … but I do have a few outfits to try on for size. So if you’re looking at something that looks like a mistake on here right now and thinking WTF, Jude, you’ll know I’m experimenting. Because I can!

I have to admit I’m not that into posting pictures and pictures and more pictures, or viewing Tumblelogs that consist of yet more pictures w/o SOME sustenance or context, and actually Tumblr gives us the tools to do a lot more.

The chance to study code and learn by doing is one of the more useful pleasures to me, and I get a real kick out of seeing the more unique sites created by artists and designers.

A Happy New Year to you, Tumblr, for providing a vehicle for some very talented people!

The other real pleasure for me is seeing so many people I know — all friends from StumbleUpon — so busy on here.

It feels more active and intriguing than SU, since people are forced to express themselves via the blog. It feels more like a game, and is wonderfully hassle-free.

So happy Tumbling in 2010 to you too, my friends

Jude

PS Sorry for what you may see in the next couple of hours. Could be ugly till it settles down …

Synaptic science is so queer!

I’m still puzzling over what we’re looking at here but suspect these creatures are best viewed under a microscope and kept at a safe distance.
