Job interviews
I’ve been in Dunedin and had a really good interview at The Evening Star.
They offered me a J2 ($60 a week), which is a really good promotion.
I won’t be on a J2 for two years yet at The Southland Times.Realised afterwards I went through the interview with my jersey inside out — labels and seams sticking out everywhere.
He paid some compliments and said my work showed I knew how to capture people’s attention. Then the bastard said he couldn’t employ a girl on his sub-editing staff.
“It’s not heard of and won’t ever happen on the ODT.”
He said he had more than he could cope with in four or five girl reporters.
